Messer Chups and El Capitan & the Reluctant Sadists play the Star Bar on Thurs., Jan. 18

MESSER CHUPS: Oleg “Gitaracula” Fomchenkov and Svetlana “Zombierella” Nagaeva.

On Thursday, January 18, Messer Chups come all the way from St. Petersburg Russia to mark their Atlanta debut appearance at the Star Bar. The group, centered around the creative nexus of guitar player Oleg “Gitaracula” Fomchenkov and bass player Svetlana “Zombierella” Nagaeva, conjure a sultry surf rock flow that’s steeped in equal parts cosmic radiation and classic monster movie ambiance.

Give a listen to their most recent full-length, Adventures of Zombierella and Guitaracula, out now via Missing Fink and Guiraracula Records.

Atlanta’s own surf-punk provocateurs El Capitan & The Reluctant Sadists get the party started. $15 (advance). $20 (at the door). 8 p.m. The Star Bar.

Didi Wray celebrates Valentine’s Day with a tale of love and monsters in ‘You Are My Gillman’

Artwork by Leandro Franco

Happy Valentine’s Day! Didi Wray dives deep into the murky waters of the Black Lagoon to find her bad boy lover lurking in a haze of swampy surf rock and reverb in “You Are My Gillman.”

This enchanted tale of supernatural allure is also one of those rare numbers in which Wray uses her guitar and her voice to melt the centuries of passion pent up in the Gillman‘s monster heart!

Press play and sing along to this tale of savagery and seduction.

I live in “Il Pantano”
I’m the leather girl
my skin your skin
like better twins
I’m sure that you’ll be mine

I’m not scared
I’m your Gillgirl
I’m not scared
’cause I’m your Gillgirl

I live in the shadows
of the corner of the street
I live in Black Lagoon
waiting for you

’cause you’re my Gillman
uhhh ’cause you´re my Gillman.

I live in the shadows
of the corner of the street
I live in Black Lagoon
waiting for you
’cause you´re my Gillman
uhhh ´cause you´re my Gillman.

Agent Orange plays the Earl with Skin Jobs and Loony on Sat., Feb. 26

AGENT ORANGE. Photo by John Leach

Agent Orange returns! Back in the ’80s, the Southern California trio led by singer and guitar player Mike Palm cranked out some of the most whiplash, compelling, and emotionally distraught surf and skate punk tunes ever committed to tape. Seeing the group live is kind of a rite of passage. Skin Jobs and Loony also perform. $18 (adv). $21 (doors). Sat., Feb. 26. The Earl.

Skin Jobs.
